On-Line Course: Exploring Tolkien: There and Back Again
Explore Tolkien’s Middle-earth from your home, in your own time. Find out about the vast mythology behind 'The Lord of the Rings', gain a thorough knowledge of Tolkien’s fiction and its creation by focusing on 'The Hobbit', 'The Lord of the Rings', 'The Silmarillion', and 'The Children of Hurin'.
Explore the northern European mythologies that inspired Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Discover Tolkien's sources in: Old Norse Mythology, Celtic Myths and Legends, Classical Myths, and Shakespeare and the Literary Tradition.
Learn about Tolkien’s invented languages, their origins and sources. Find out about the Races and the Cultures of Middle-earth.
Participate in a lively Discussion Board moderated by your tutor. Get access to Cardiff University's electronic resources.
Do the course for credits which you can use towards your Higher Education Qualification (optional).
The course has been updated and enlarged to include a discussion of 'The Children of Húrin', the ‘new’ book by JRR Tolkien, which was published in April 2007.
This is an on-line course, hosted by The Centre for Lifelong Learning at Cardiff University, taught in 10 weekly units. This course is taught by Dr. Dimitra Fimi.

Oxonmoot happens in Oxford in September every year, usually on the weekend closest the 22nd of September: Frodo and Bilbo's birthday.
The moot usually includes talks, a quiz, an art show, a masquerade and other entertainments, a visit to Tolkien's grave in north Oxford, and last, but not least, the chance to spend a weekend in the company of other fans of Tolkien's work.

June 5th - June 8th, 2008- Forodrim Jubilee
The hour is drawing close when the Forodrim will have been active for four enneads, reaffirming the glory and grandeur of the ancient Middle-earth in a paled world.
This will be appropriately celebrated with a feast going on for four days and three nights.
May all the Forodrim, and all its kindred and allies near and far, gather to a celebration like no other.
